The above three schools are going to be merged into two academies; one at Hillcrest and the other on the Filsham Valley site which will continue to offer provision for special educational needs within the mainstream. All sixth form studies will take place at a dedicated College, eg Sussex Coast College, Hastings. If everything goes to plan the new academies are scheduled to open in September 2011. TERTIARY EDUCATION

This is the new name for Hastings College, previously known as Hastings College of Arts and Technology [HCAT]. The College is currently in the middle of a new build on two new sites, Station Plaza, next to Hastings railway station, and Parker Road, Ore Valley.
Both new build campuses are accessible to the local community with much improved access to local transport facilities. The Station Plaza development includes a 6-storey building based upon 4 interlinked blocks covered by a glazed atrium; 104 residential units, a primary care centre and 324 underground car parking spaces.
The Ore Valley campus represents a third of the new College and will be focused around the development of a business, construction, engineering and technology centre. New facilities will also include bespoke training areas to study hair and sport, a library with the latest computer equipment, an all weather playing surface and an internet café.
The medium sized general further education college provides for all levels of ability up to higher national diploma level offering a range of courses to meet local community needs, expanding the work-based learning programmes for young people and adults and offering a range of adult and community learning courses. It also delivers full-cost international and higher education courses.
Art and Design were rated as 'outstanding' by Ofsted in June 2008.

The University Centre Hastings (UCH) is managed by the University of Brighton and represents a new concept in higher education, with courses delivered in Hastings and qualifications awarded by the partner universities and colleges. Courses are offered in a variety of subject areas and at levels to suit different tastes, including a portfolio of courses designed to meet the needs of local businesses and their staff.
UCH is an initiative in partnership with the Hastings & Bexhill Task force, the University of Brighton, Canterbury Christ Church University College, the University of Greenwich, Hastings College, The Open University and the University of Sussex.
