Refuse and Recycling

HBC operates a twin-bin scheme in parts of Gensing and Central St Leonards.

Twin bins are collected on alternate weeks; the week of June 15th 2009 is recycling, June 22nd is rubbish and so on.

Weekly collections take both refuse [black bags] and recycling [pink bags] Pink bags can be delivered to your door by contacting the Refuse and Recycling Team on 01424 451077

It is an offence to put bags out before 07:00 on the day of collection.

All pink bags should be outside the property by 07:30 on the relevant morning; the black bags are usually collected a little later. Washing out food-trays and double wrapping smelly rubbish helps to stop the seagulls and urban foxes from ripping the bags and creating a serious litter problem.

Glass is not suitable for recycling collection as it contaminates the other elements and the whole bag will be rejected if it contains glass. It must be taken to a recycling site [see below] Shredded paper must go in general refuse as it clogs up the recycling machinery.

Hastings Borough Council offers a Bulky Waste collection service. This costs £15 for up to three bulky items, such as furniture and white goods. To book this service, visit the Hastings Information Centre, call the phone number above, or fill in the online Bulky Waste Collection Request form. This service is not available to landlords.

HBC also run a Garden Waste scheme which costs £32 a year for a 240l brown wheelie bin, collected fortnightly.
